Bukola Saraki introduces the #MadeInNigeria challenge, promises to fund local craft men to produce in large scale

In a series of tweets, Nigeria’s Senate President, Bukola Saraki, introduced a challenge tagged #MadeInNigeria Challenge. The challenge, which will begin next year, is targeted at encouraging the production of locally made goods so as to reduce importation and strengthen our currency.

The challenge will be in the form of a video posted with the hashtag #MadeInNigeria.  Manufacturers are to post 45 seconds to 3 minutes videos depicting products currently being imported which can alternatively be produced using local content from Nigeria. The challenge will give manufacturers a chance to pitch their products using 80% - 100% locally sourced materials and the shortlisted manufacturers will be invited to a roundtable with investors and government agencies.

Bukola Saraki went on to promise to patronize and fund on a large scale the crafts presented by Nigerian manufacturers. He revealed that the chairs used in his home are made in his home state, Kwara state, and advised Nigerians to support locally made products.
